What you should know about Douyin
Douyin (抖音) is the Chinese counterpart of TikTok: same ByteDance engine, same recommendation feed, but a separate app, a separate content pool, and its own link grammar. That last part is where most generic downloaders fail. A link copied from the Douyin browser bar usually looks like douyin.com/jingxuan?modal_id=… or douyin.com/video/7…, while a link shared from the app arrives as a short v.douyin.com/… redirect. A resolver has to normalize all three shapes before it can even find the post.
GDown handles that normalization at the edge: short links are expanded, modal_id and jingxuan links are rewritten to their canonical form, and the post manifest is then fetched through a rotating set of resolution routes. When the manifest is read, you get the cleanest rendition the platform exposes — the same file the Douyin app streams, which is why the saved copy carries no watermark overlay. One honest limitation: private, followers-only, and deleted posts are not exposed by any public endpoint, and GDown does not attempt to bypass platform restrictions.
